In-Person Classes in the San Francisco Bay Area
Embroidery Foundation Series - 5 sessions
SOLD OUT - This is a rare opportunity to study in depth and in person this ancient art of embroidery. In this series we will focus on stitch structure and technique based on stitch family. We will practice the stitches outside the confines of a design. Learn the basics of embroidery to be able to follow kit instructions easily or design our own embroideries. Beginners are welcome as well as experienced embroiderers who want to brush up on technique. We will go over the following stitch groups, Back, Looped, Straight (including Satin), Knotted, Crossed and Composite, Woven, Couched and Laid.
If you really want to take the series but can’t make one of the classes I will make sure you get all the stitch instructions and information you need for the missed class to get the complete embroidery foundation experience.
A kit of muslin, needle, and thread will be provided the first day of class. If needed another kit may be purchased for later classes at $5 each. You are also welcome to bring your own supplies. Hoops, scissors, and design tools will be supplied.
Classes will be from 1PM to 3PM Saturdays January 17, January 31, February 7, February 21, February 28. Class fee $200.

Embroidery Winter Retreat
Let's have a stitch retreat in our home town! It'll be like you're on vacation but you get to sleep in your own bed! Is a stitch retreat right for you? You may be a beginner and want to practice stitches with an instructor and a supportive community. You may have taken several classes and want to move to the next level such as learning the basics of design and how to transfer designs onto fabric. Maybe you want to perfect embroidery lettering or bullions, or any other surface embroidery technique. You may be advanced and want to stitch in a wonderful environment with nice, like minded artists. There are so many reasons why you might want to sign up for an embroidery stitch retreat! Before the retreat we will communicate about goals to make sure you get the most out of the week.

Beginning Embroidery - Flower Mandala
This class is perfect for the beginner! We will go over in detail how to thread a needle, tie a knot in the thread, and tie off on the back. We will learn some basic stitches while making a beautiful flower mandala. Live classes are very rare so take this opportunity to discover if embroidery is right for you!

How to Embroider Lettering
There are so many ways to embroider letters! Learn to embroider your favorite poem or any words that are important to you. You will learn tips and tricks how to make your letters look perfect! You will get the most out of this class if you have some experience so if you are a brand new beginner I recommend taking the Beginner Flower Mandala class prior to this class.

Beginning Embroidery at FabMo
Have you bought a book or kit and tried to learn embroidery? Have the tutorial videos left you stumped? We will go over what embroidery floss is, how to thread a needle, tie a knot, and how to tie off on the back. We will learn chain stitch, back stitch, whipped back stitch, french knot, and the woven wheel. There is no set design, we will just practice stitches. There are 100’s of embroidery stitches to learn and this are a good introduction to the different stitch families. Included in the course is a kit containing fabric, thread, a needle, and detailed stitch instructions. This class is for beginners or experienced embroiderers who would like a refresher in the basics.
Class fee $45 and includes kit of fabric, needle, and thread. Hoops and scissors will be supplied.

Embroidery - Freestyle Flowers
This class is always so fun! Everyone seems to love flowers and it always sells out. You will get the most out of this class if you have some experience so if you are a brand new beginner I recommend taking the Beginner Flower Mandala class prior to this class. We start with some basic stitches for flowers like the lazy daisy and french knot. Then students look at a lot of samples and pick out stitches they would like to learn and I demonstrate so it is a free form class. I also talk about how to design.

How to Embroider on Clothes
Embroidering on clothes is my specialty. Maybe you have a pair of jeans with a stain you would like to cover? Learn all the tips and tricks how to embroider on your clothes to make one-of-a-kind pieces and express yourself! I will share design and transfer tips as well as recommend stitches that are hardy and will withstand washing. Bring any clothes you would like to embroider. I recommend clothes that do not stretch. Jeans or cotton shirts are good. Examples of things that would be difficult are t-shirts, sweat shirts, sweaters, anything that’s stretchy. You will get the most out of this class if you have some experience so if you are a brand new beginner I recommend taking the Beginner Flower Mandala class prior to this class.

Bullions are so beautiful and there are so many things you can do with them! This 3 hour class goes into depth about how to do a bullion properly. You will get lots of tips and tricks with this one!
